Description
The installation of traffic lights at the junction of Molle and Collins streets in Hobart has created a safer crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.
Previously, pedestrians and commuters had to negotiate a busy, two-lane road, which acted as a barrier for many in the community who wanted to feel safe moving into and out of the Hobart CBD via the Hobart Rivulet Track.
The project also creates safer driving conditions at this busy intersection, helping motorists negotiate the junction.
The project involved the construction of:-
- Of new roadway for Goshawk Way and a roundabout connection to Huon Highway.
- Quality management
- Traffic management
- Environmental management
- Community and stakeholder engagement
- Construction of underground stormwater drainage, including associated
structures - Construction of electrical conduit runs and pits
- Installation of traffic signals including concrete footings
- Reinstatement of disturbed areas including replacement of previously heavily patched footpaths.
- Replacement of the existing intersection asphalt with high performance asphalting removing heavily patched areas.
- Linemarking and pavement markings including bike lanes.
Special features of project:
- This project featured complex traffic management arrangements in an urban environment requiring engagement with the Department of State Growth and multiple other stakeholders.
- Assisting Hobart City Council with finalisation of scope integrating design changes that resulted in the installation of necessary conduiting through a location that is heavily congested with multiple communications, power, gas, water and stormwater lines.
- Engagement with service authorities to facilitate construction in proximity with critical infrastructure.
